Product Bulletin: Color-Changing Light Control Chip Issue
(date code 9/21 through 7/22)
We want to reach out to provide an update on an issue we have been investigating with some of the color-changing lights becoming stuck on a color and not responding to commands.
The engineers at our lighting factory have confirmed that this issue is a result of a different control chip that was used in several production runs of the 2-watt, 4.5-watt, and 8-watt color-changing lights (date code 9/21 through 7/22). The chip that is normally used to produce our lights was not available due to the well-publicized global chip shortage related to the pandemic, so the engineers selected an alternate chip from the same chip manufacturer. The production run of these lights arrived in our warehouse and started shipping out our doors in 2022.
We have discovered that this chip may cause buggy issues with controlling the lights, such as an individual light not changing color or not turning off when controlled by the remote control or the Aquascape Smart Control App. This issue has been reported enough that we have decided to stop shipping out our current inventory. We are taking these measures because we want to be confident that we are not replacing a warranty light that has buggy issues with another light that may have the potential for the same issue.
Our factory is currently expediting the production of new color-changing lights now that the original chip is available. We expect these lights to arrive in the second half of May.
For any new, unused stock, Aquascape will be contacting customers who have purchased the affected lights directly from us to coordinate returns and replacements. If you have purchased the affected lights indirectly (via a distributor or retailer) please reach out to the Aquascape customer care team at customerservicecanada@aquascapeinc.com or (866) 766-3426 to coordinate your return and replacement of any new lights with the date codes of 9/21 through 7/22. We expect the new production of lights to arrive the second half of May, so we will have a short gap in inventory that we have to take into consideration when processing the exchange.
Any installed lights with a production date code of 9/21 through 7/22 can be exchanged under warranty. This is true whether the lights are exhibiting the buggy issues as described or you are simply concerned that they may have problems in the future and would like to exchange them under warranty. Please keep in mind the timing of the warranty exchange as we will have a gap in inventory as we wait for the new production of color-changing lights to arrive in the second half of May.
