Architextures Installation Guide
The New Colouring Process for Barkman’s Architextures Wall

Barkman has introduced several bold new products for 2017 and with these new products come even bolder new colour options. With the advancements in production technology, Barkman is able to utilize new colouring techniques to make colours more vibrant than ever before.

Traditional blended colours in retaining wall and paving stone products are manufactured by mixing multiple colours together to achieve a consistent blending of the colours in as many blocks as possible. As a result of this process, the multiple colours are visible but may appear a little dull compared to a pure vibrant single colour.

The new colouring technique that Barkman is using on some of the new products, concentrates the colouring on the surface of the product, allowing the colour to remain more vibrant. In addition, Barkman has the ability to concentrate the colours and create a "streaking" effect in the surface of the product. This process defines colour in a much bolder way, just like you would see in veins of natural rock.

Installation Tips (change)

It is not uncommon for concrete products to vary in colour, even if it is a single or blended colour. Always work with and install products from multiple pallets at one time. This simple practice blends colour variations together and provides an even distribution of the colour. Large projects easily allow you to blend multiple pallets together and deal with any slight color variations. Smaller projects that may only be a few pallets can be more difficult, especially if you receive product that may be on the darker or lighter end of the colour blend. On smaller projects, it is best to look at the product to ensure that there is a reasonable amount of colour in some of the pallets so the overall colour theme is represented. Concrete products that have concentrated surface colouring or color "streaking", can be some of the most vibrant and beautiful colours to work with but they can also have the most variation between pallets.

A Note on Efflorescence

NOTE: Efflorescence is a whitish powder like deposit of calcium carbonate that may appear on the product. It is a natural by-product of the cement hydration process and is inherent in all concrete products. It will usually wash or wear off in the course of time. If you do not wish to wait for this natural process to occur, cleaners designed specifically for removal are available. DO NOT USE MURIATIC ACID directly as it will damage the color. Efflorescence in no way affects the integrity of the product, and is not a cause for rejection. Cleaning and sealing can take place immediately after installation, weather permitting.
