A Buddha is a very holy person in Buddhist beliefs. The word Buddha means "enlightened one". The Buddha most commonly referred to is Siddhartha Gautama. He was the man who started Buddhism. Often people call him "the Buddha". People call any person a Buddha if they have found enlightenment. A person who has not found enlightenment, but is very close to reaching enlightenment is called a Bodhisattva.
